Working principle

This method uses the gas bubble pressure method and the principle of capillary action to measure the pore size of the membrane, and the surface tension of the infiltrator affects the size of the pore size. It can be seen from the capillary action principle that when A capillary with radius r is wetted by liquid A with surface tension σ, the capillary liquid pressure P2 and gas phase pressure P1(liquid B is the gas phase) reach static equilibrium, the relationship between P2 and P1 can be described by Laplace equation:

When the pressure difference between the two ends of the pore is greater than 2σcosθ/r, the liquid in the capillary will be removed, and the gas bubble pressure method is based on this principle to determine the pore size of porous materials. In the actual measurement process, the liquid with known surface tension sufficiently (saturates) wets the porous ceramic material holes (vacuums or boils), fixes the pressure at one end of the porous material, and creates a pressure difference with air or nitrogen at the other end. When the pressure difference is large to a certain value, the maximum aperture of the porous material is first opened, and the aperture is calculated according to the above formula.
