ASTM D4147 adalah metode standar untuk mengaplikasikan lapisan film tipis dengan ketebalan seragam pada pelat datar menggunakan batang gores melingkar.

The plate is fixed on a solid horizontal surface. Pour a sufficient amount of coating on one end of the board and place the scraping rod behind the coating. The bar is then pulled evenly along the length of the panel toward the operator to apply a uniform film. The obtained dry film thickness depends on the combination of rods used, the volume solids of the coating and the scraping speed.

This practice is useful in the laboratory for simulating roll coating.
