Instrument Introduction:
Plant transpiration rate refers to the speed at which water, passing through the plant’s body and through its surface (mainly leaves), is released into the atmosphere as gas. Transpiration generates transpiration pull, the primary driving force for passive water absorption and transport in plants, especially important for tall trees. Transpiration promotes the transport of substances in the xylem sap, allowing mineral salts from the soil and substances synthesized by the roots to be transported and distributed throughout the plant along with water absorption and flow. Transpiration also lowers the plant’s temperature, preventing leaf burn. Normal transpiration facilitates CO2 assimilation because stomata are open during transpiration, providing a pathway for CO2 to enter the leaves.
