4.1 Paint is often stained, especially near doorways, Windows, and work and play areas. These test methods cover the determination of the relative resistance of different paints to erosion when repeatedly scrubbed during the life of the paint.

4.2 Test Method D4213 is a similar scrubbing resistance test that uses weight loss techniques and reports volume film erosion rates.

4.3 Test Method A The scrubbing resistance is measured using the traditional cycle failure concept. The poor correlation in scrubbing tests can be attributed to changes in bristle stiffness, washability tester status, application, and drying conditions. To improve reproducibility, test Method B has been developed.

1.1 These test methods cover procedures for determining the resistance of wall coatings to erosion caused by scrubbing, herein referred to as “scrubbing resistance”.

1.2 Covers the following two test methods:

1.2.1 Test Method A – Failure period obtained on test coatings.

1.2.2 Test Method B – Ratio expressed as a percentage of the period obtained with the test coating and the period and failure period obtained while running with a known reference coating.

1.3 Values expressed in SI units shall be considered standard. The values given in parentheses are for reference only.
