The permeability of the paint to water vapor is suspended by the film of the material in the opening of the shallow cup. Then, in a controlled environment, the water vapor is waded or injected into the cup using a desiccant. In a specific period of time, the rate of water vapor passing through the film is measured by the decrease or increase of the weight of the contents in the cup. The permeability of paint film to other substrates in gaseous state can be measured by the same method.
Designed according to GB/T 17146, ISO 7783-2018 and ASTM D 1653, the permeability cup is a shallow cylinder with threaded flange, flat protective washer and threaded ring cover. The sample is tightly sealed between the cup and the ring cap with a rubber gasket. The cups and LIDS are notched for easy hand-holding.
Permeability cups are available in two different sizes:
Large size: 25cm² cup, in accordance with ASTM standards

Operation steps:
During the test, water vapor passes from the cup through the film sample into an open desiccant container or other absorbent material in a controlled environment. The permeability cup is sealed in a larger container with other containers to provide controlled water vapor pressure.
It can also be tested in this way: let the water vapor from the solution in an open container, by testing the paint film into the desiccant or other material in the permeability cup.
